The Media Diversity Institute organised two 2-day Reporting Diversity Curricula Development workshops for journalism academics in Morocco, between 15-19 October 2009.  The first workshop was held in Rabat, and was attended by academics from ISIC, private journalism institutes in Casablanca, and Marrakech University among others, while the second workshop took place in Ifrane, and included academics from Al Akhawayn, Fez, Oujda, and Meknes universities.

The main aim of the workshops was to introduce the central concepts that underpin the practice of critical, inclusive, and responsible journalism. The workshops focused on a range of issues whose professional coverage is essential to the empowerment of civil society, intercultural understanding/dialogue and the strengthening of democratic values. These issues included: Ethnicity, Religion, Gender/women's issues, Age, People with Disabilities, and Human/civil rights.

MDI will offer support to a minimum of five of the academics who attended the workshops and who are eager to develop and teach their own Reporting Diversity modules, as a follow up. The workshops were supported by the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
