The place of Indigenous Media in a Globalized world Print

Date:  13, 14 & 15 October 2009

Region/Country: Malaysia

An upcoming international conference in Malaysia focusing on indigenous media will discuss the relevance of "indigenizing" media knowledge in an era in which Western curricula has influenced media studies worldwide. In an increasingly globalized world, maintaining an indigenous identity in the media -- and contextualizing knowledge and information to suit local discourse, policies and realities -- is a challenge. Participation from academics, practitioners and graduate students in media and communication is welcomed.
