An Albanian-language edition of MDI's 'Media Relations Guide for the Roma', was published by MDI in October. The handbook is a practical guide to media relations for Roma NGOs and Roma people who need to communicate better with the media. (The handbook is already available in Romani, Croatian, English and Macedonian languages) |

| AWARD - 'British Diversity Award for MDI's Israeli journalism student project' |

The Arab-Jewish student journalist team behind the 'Fresh Views' coexistence newspaper, produced as part of the Media Diversity Institute's 'Finding common ground in Israel - Jewish and Arab journalism students working together' project, was recognized at the British Diversity Awards, 2004 annual awards ceremony. The team, from the Emek Yezreel College near Nazareth, received a 'Certificate of Excellence' commending its work in promoting inclusion in its northern Israel community.

MONITORING - 'Monitoring of diversity coverage in the South Caucasus' |

| Media
monitoring of 15 leading newspapers in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia took
place for the entire month of September. Monitoring specifically examined
the media's coverage of the following diversity groups: refugees/internally displaced
persons, disabled persons, religious minorities, sexual minorities and ethnic
minorities. It was followed by a cross-regional comparison of the results. |

MDI
conducted the second of two fact-finding missions to Indonesia to meet with
journalists, media decision-makers and NGO representatives. During the course
of this mission MDI will conducted dozens of interviews (both in Jakarta, and in
provincial cities in Java and Sumatra) with various media and minorities groups.
The aim was to assess the media diversity needs of the region and to gather local
views on strategies for any possible MDI intervention.
