NILE, a European network for adult education, will hold a conference on the role of the media in intercultural dialogue, Sopot, Poland, 17-18 May 2007. The Media Diversity Institute, a NILE member, will run a workshop titled ‘How to communicate with/through the media'. A MDI representative will also take a part in televised public debate “EUROPE IS HERE - intercultural dialogue”, scheduled for the first day of the conference. Media festival to take place in Nazareth |

The Arab Palestinian Media Centre in Israel is scheduled to hold a media festival in the Palestinian city of Nazareth on May 25 -26, titled “Old city, new perspectives.” Topics under discussion will include: improving the skills of Palestinian journalists in Israel, the creation of effective blogs, and women's rights and the media. A special workshop 'Monitoring the Media for NGOs' to assist civil society with the tools to analyse the media in a human rights context will be run by the London based Media Diversity Institute. 8th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific will draw
together members of the scientific, political, non-profit, and media
communities to network, participate in workshops, and develop
sustainable partnerships for promoting HIV/AIDS awareness and
treatment. Limited number of scholarships for attendees from the region
available. The application deadline for scholarships has been extended
to April 20.
The event is being hosted by the Sri Lankan
Ministry of Health, and is being sponsored by UNAIDS, the AIDS Society

‘Arab Women Journalists in between Laws and Ethics’, this will be the
sixth Arab Women’s Media Conference, for female Arab journalists,
organized by the Amman based Arab Women Media Centre. Among the issues
to be discussed during the conference are ‘Media and journalism laws in
the Arab states’, ‘Journalists rights during war and crises’, and

| JOURNALISM - Gender Perspectives Course in Palestinian |

The Course, designed for the
Palestinian women's magazine Saut an-Nissa (Women’s Voice), Ramallah, is a joint
effort by Fojo - Institute for Further Education of Journalists, Kalmar,
Sweden; Birzeit University's Media Institute, Ramallah, PA; and Media Diversity
Institute (MDI), London, UK. The participants of the course – editorial and
management teams, as well as reporters, will explore the possibilities to expand
their readership. Leading academics, media workers and representatives from
gender-specialized NGOs in the PA will be taking place in this week-long event.
Milica Pesic, of the MDI will be a lead trainer. With the support of

week of Media and Diversity' |

From 19 to 25 March, organizations from more than
10 EU countries, will join the European Week of Media and Diversity.
The Week was launched four years ago by Online/More Colour in the Media
(OLMCM), the European network for media and diversity based in the
Netherlands. The goal was then, and still
is, to promote public dialogue about representation of diverse groups
in the European media. Media Diversity Institute will take part again
this year.

- 'Journalism courses for teenage Rio de Janeiro slum dwellers' |

A series of journalism courses in Rio de Janeiro's
poorest neighborhoods designed to foster a more critical view of the
media - and to help students in those communities produce their own
media projects. Students will learn how to produce newspapers and
magazines, and they will take classes on radio, TV, photography and
English. Classes began in August 2005 will run through until August
