Project objectives:
|
The project aimed to
help media in Bosnia and Herzegovina facilitate post-war trauma recovery, as well
as promoting reconstruction and the reconciliation across the ethnically divided
country. Specific objectives were: | | |
to assist media in promoting greater popular understanding of human rights, minority
rights, international obligations, and the requirements of democratic citizenship;
| | | to
support greater understanding among all ethnic groups of the social, political,
and economic concerns within each community by strengthening the capabilities
of news organisations to distribute more in-depth, balanced, and pluralistic reports. |
| Through
cross-ethnic and cross-entity initiatives, MDI aimed to build constructive and
influential relationships between journalists and news organisations.
| Project
activities: | | A
'Reporting Diversity Resource Manual' was designed specifically for journalists
from Bosnia and Herzegovina; | | | A
reporting diversity course was introduced into the journalism school jointly run
by the Media Centar and the BBC; | | | The
'Reporter Weekly' newspaper (in Republika Srpska) introduced a special page devoted
to diversity-related issues; | | | The
Media Plan Institute launched a "Building Tolerance Through Music" initiative
to broadcast popular music from different communities across ethnic lines. |
