Promoting a diverse, inclusive and accurate media

With sister organisations in London, Brussels, Belgrade, Yerevan and Gloucester (US), the Media Diversity Institute (MDI) works internationally to promote accurate and nuanced reporting on issues of race, religion, ethnicity, class, disability, gender and sexual identity in media landscapes around the world.

While our work is grounded in the principles of freedom of expression and the values of diversity and inclusion, our day-to-day focus is on cultivating practical skills to combat negative stereotypes and disinformation, and to improve media and information literacy.

Indigenous Voices on climate change – Insights from the Mapuche community in Chile

In the context of COP29, we’re sharing a series dedicated to perspectives that are too often left out of the climate conversation. Our correspondent in Chile, Elisa Mena, has been working to create content that highlights the Mapuche people’s profound connection to their land and their resilience in the face of mounting environmental challenges.

Through conversations with Mapuche leaders, climate experts, and students, we’re sharing how Indigenous perspectives on climate change are represented in the media – and how these stories shape public understanding. For the Mapuche, climate change isn’t a distant threat; it impacts their communities, culture, and future.

➡️ Follow our journey on Instagram as we shine a light on these vital voices and advocate for inclusive climate narratives.
