4 MAY 2026, BELvue Museum, Brussels
Join Us for a One‑Day Conference Shaping the Future of Local Media in Europe

Local and community media across Belgium and Europe are at a turning point. Traditional business models are faltering, audiences are drifting away, and citizens are increasingly left without reliable information about what’s happening in their own communities. News deserts are no longer a distant warning, they’re here.
Our one‑day gathering brings together local media leaders, donors, innovators, and business experts to confront these challenges head‑on and chart a path toward a more sustainable, community‑driven media landscape.
Together, we’ll explore:
- Bold new business models and the innovative solutions redefining local media sustainability.
- The evolving role of grant funding, especially in light of the EU’s new seven‑year budget and its priority commitments to local media.
- The power of community‑produced content, collaborative journalism and why they remain a unique democratic asset.
- Strategies for engaging new, diverse, and younger audiences who are reshaping the information ecosystem.
- Press freedom and media protections, as we meet just one day after World Press Freedom Day and look ahead to emerging threats and opportunities.
This is a moment for collaboration, creativity, and action. We hope you’ll be part of the conversation and the solutions.
This event is organised by Media Diversity Institute Global within the framework of the LIMENet Project.
