Media Diversity Research Center

The Media Diversity Research Centre (MDRC), a key initiative of the Media Diversity Institute (MDI) is dedicated to advancing diversity and inclusion in the media through cutting-edge research and evidence-based policy recommendations that foster global collaboration among journalists, academics and civil society organisations.

Building on MDI’s 25-year legacy of promoting inclusive and accurate media representation, the MDRC was established to address the growing need for research at the intersection of diversity, inclusion, and public interest journalism.

The MDRC provides a hub for innovation and knowledge sharing, supporting efforts to:

• Improve social cohesion through the media.

• Equip journalists and media professionals with the tools to improve representation.

• Influence policy with empirical data on media diversity.

With its first major initiatives, including the Media Diversity Index and a series of groundbreaking studies, the MDRC aims to reshape media landscapes to reflect diverse societies better.

The Media Diversity Research Centre is more than a research hub—it’s a call to action. Through the MDRC, MDI aims to advance knowledge, foster collaboration, and promote best practices in diversity and inclusion.
