OPEN CALL: Building Alternative and Counter Narratives in the Media

Building Alternative and Counter Narratives in the Media is a series of three interactive, half-day online forums organised by PARATA aimed at journalism students, journalists, and media professionals who want to challenge harmful and hateful narratives and strengthen reporting that reflects diverse voices and represents them truthfully and responsibly.

Across three sessions, participants will explore key challenges in media representation through concrete examples, case studies, and guided discussions on:

  • February 12, 2026: Media Coverage of Feminist & LGBTQIA+ Movements (English)
  • February 19, 2026: Media Narratives on Migrants and Refugees (English)
  • February 26, 2026: Media Reporting on Climate Defenders (English)

The forums focus on identifying dominant and exclusionary narratives in the media and equipping participants with practical tools to counter disinformation, hate speech, and biased representations. Through interactive discussions and hands-on exercises, participants will learn how to develop counter narratives in response to dominant media narratives.

Join us from 10 AM to 3 PM Central European Time (CET).

Registration is open until February 6, 2026. The detailed agenda will be shared with registered participants on the same day.

PARATAThe Protecting At-Risk Activists from Threats and Attacks project aims to strengthen the resilience of CSOs and HRDs in Europe to threats, attacks, and other politically motivated attempts to curb the freedoms of assembly, association, and expression. The project will unlock new opportunities for mutual learning between those working to protect the civic space, using the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights as an ethical compass.
